What are the Badger State Games?
The Badger State Games of Wisconsin is a multi-sport Olympic-style sports festival for the residents of Wisconsin. An initiative of the Sports Authority part of the Central/Wausau Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau, a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization, the State Games of Wisconsin is officially recognized as a United States Olympic Committee State Games Program Participant and is part of a nationwide network of State Games of America  (www.stategames.org) and the State Games Movement as part of the National Congress of State Games.
What is the State Games Movement and the National Congress of State Games?
There are currently 31 states conducting or organizing statewide sports festivals known as State Games. Modeled after the Olympic Games, State Games provide a motivational goal for all athletes within the state in which they are organized. Recreational and competitive events alike are offered in most states, so whether participants compete for the fun of it or as the first step to their Olympic dream, there's something for everybody in the State Games.
The National Congress of State Games (NCSG) is a membership organization comprised of 31 Summer State Games and 10 Winter State Games organizations and a member of the United States Olympic Committee's Multi Sport Organizational Council. The mission of the NCSG is to support State Games member organizations in the promotion of health, fitness and character building through Olympic-Style competitions and physical activities.
The NCSG is also the rights holder of the State Games of America, an Olympic-style event featuring competition between State Games medal winners (gold, silver, bronze) from across the nation.
Who can compete?
All Wisconsin residents, college students and military personnel who have lived in the state for at least 30 days prior to the day of competition and meet the specific requirements for their sport of interest may compete. Wisconsin residents attending college or serving in the military in another state are also eligible to compete. Participants in developing individual sports residing close to a neighboring state line may be eligible to compete.
The Badger State Games of Wisconsin reserves the right to restrict individuals and/or teams from competing in the Games for the best interest of the event.
When and where will the Badger State Games to be held?
Badger State Winter Games will be held Mid-January to early February each year at various venues throughout Central Wisconsin. Badger State Summer Games will be held mid-June every year hosting not only in central Wisconsin but various other cities across the state. Check each specific sport page for locations, times and dates of each event.
How do I register?
To enter the Badger State Games, carefully read the information concerning your specific sport of interest. Follow the step-by-step registration instructions and submit by entry deadline. Athletes may compete in any number of sports, yet conflicts in scheduling are the responsibility of the athlete. Visit www.badgerstategames.org to register.
Do I have to provide proof of age?
While there are no specific age limits for participation proof of age is required. Copies of Birth Certificate, Military I.D. and/or driver’s license are acceptable proof-of-age documents. Do not mail or hand-deliver any proof-of-age documents to the Badger State Games. The coach/participant should have proof-of-age documents on hand at the event site. In case of eligibility disputes, lack of proper documentation may result in disqualification of individual participants and/or team.
What are the registration fees and what is the refund policy?
Each sport has its own entry fee requirements. Consult the appropriate sport section of our website for entry fee amounts. There will be NO REFUNDS of entry fees because of rain or other acts of nature or if an athlete or team fails to participate. Sports using outdoor sites are weather dependent. Competitions will be conducted unless the Badger State Games officials determine otherwise, or if the playing fields would incur significant damage.
The only exceptions to the no-refund policy are:
1) Entries received after the maximum number of teams are bracketed, or if there are not enough teams or individuals to form a division.
2) Special circumstances determined on an individual basis by the Operations Manager.
All refund requests must be submitted in writing for review by the Executive Director and Operations Manager. Please submit requests via email to info@badgerstategames.org
What about returned checks?
It is the Badger State Games operations policy to charge a $35 service fee for returned checks in addition to the amount of the original check. The applicant will only be able to participate when the entry fee and service fee have been paid.
What types of awards are given?
Badger State Games medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each event. Athletes are responsible for pick-up of awards at the venue on the day of the event.
Those that medal in Badger State Games have the opportunity to participate in the State Games of America competition that is held every two years.
What uniform should I wear?
All contestants must comply with uniform requirement of their sport. Badger State Games reserves the right to disqualify any participant whose uniform is thought to negatively affect the Games.
